As an elite video photojournalist, Bethany specializes in creating narratives that go beyond the ordinary.

Swain Domain isn't just a boutique production company;

it's a philosophy of storytelling excellence.

Her passion is amplifying underrepresented voices and stories that might otherwise go untold.

Through mentorship and education, she empowers individuals to authentically share their stories and change the world.

From the campaign trail, to Afghanistan, to the classroom...

Bethany covered a wide variety of stories during her decade as a photojournalist for CNN. Swain was a versatile member of the Washington Bureau, and one of the women that made up only 5% of CNN’s domestic photojournalists team. She made her mark at CNN, earning accolades and becoming the first woman named Video Photographer of the Year by WHNPA.

A Mentor to Many

As a Journalism Professor at the University of Maryland and later the Director of Video Production, Bethany passionately oversaw and nurtured the growth and success of dozens of students in her premiere visual storytelling capstone course, ViewFinder. Those she has taught over the years have collectively gone on to win more than a dozen student Emmys, numerous SPJ, NPPA and WHNPA awards, and several other nationally acclaimed accolades for the work they produced under her guidance.
